The Riverside Symphonia and New Hope Arts are pleased to announce a joint collaboration to produce a large scale orchestral concert and art exhibit entitled "Pictures at an Exhibition".
Famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn will bring her Stradivarius, known throughout the world as “The Red Violin”, and join the orchestra for an illuminating presentation of works by Dvorak and Mozart. A glorious symphonic arrangement of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition" will follow and provide a magnificent representation of the Riverside Symphonia’s power to captivate the imagination and illustrate the magic of music.
The title composition, Pictures at an Exhibition, depicts the composer’s experience touring an exhibition of the works of artist Viktor Hartmann. In order to capture the essence of the intrinsic dynamic between art and music that inspired Mussorgsky, the Riverside Symphonia has partnered with New Hope Arts to bring that experience to life.
Starting on March 24th, New Hope Arts will install a curated exhibit of original art from the region’s finest artists. These artists will present works that were inspired by their own interpretation of the music of Pictures at an Exhibition. The featured artists will include: Robert Beck, Tom Chesar, Alex Demevski, James Feehan, Amor Keller, Kirby Fredendall, John Mathews, Florence Moonan, Janet Purcell, Roy Reinard and Yelena Strokin.
“Our invited artists were enthusiastic about this unique pairing of visual arts and music. We are hoping that the cross - discipline collaboration with Riverside Symphonia will bring new audiences to each of our venues, and further highlight the truly unique and rich talent of the visual and performing arts in the New Hope/Lambertville area,” said New Hope Arts Executive Director, Carol Cruickshanks.
To further the experience for the Riverside Symphonia audience, ticket holders are invited to a special reception before the concert at New Hope Arts, 2 Stockton Ave, New Hope, PA 18938 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm to truly immerse in the footsteps of Mussorgsky and see some immensely talented artists. “The profound reaction by Mussorgsky to Hartmann’s art led him to create a beautiful and meaningful piece of music,” said Riverside Symphonia Executive Director, Cullen McAuliffe. “Our goal with this concert is to elicit that same kind of passion and feeling by combining the two disciplines that make the Lambertville/New Hope area a world-famous destination. We are very
excited to partner with New Hope Arts and Elizabeth Pitcairn to offer this concert experience to our audience in the river towns and beyond.” he added.
