Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County held a very special home dedication ceremony on Dec. 12th to welcome a family to their new Habitat home in Levittown. During the ceremony, Omar and Martha and their children proudly displayed the key to their new home, which they worked to renovate and purchase with the help of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. “Every child deserves a decent place to grow up,” said Florence Kawoczka, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. “Thanks to our many volunteers and our home sponsors, Parx Casino and BB&T, nine-year-old Aaron and his brothers have that chance.” “Aaron and his family were living in a cramped basement apartment with six people sharing two bedrooms. Aaron and his three brothers didn’t have a quiet space where they could do homework, recharge, dream and grow,” said Kawoczka.  “Through the Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County’s Homeownership Program, this family now has a house of their own.” After investing more than 150 hours of sweat equity building alongside Habitat staff and volunteers, the family was able to purchase their three-bedroom home with an affordable zero-interest Habitat mortgage.

Right here in Bucks County there are children who endure the effects of living in overcrowded, unhealthy and unsafe housing. Habitat Bucks is accomplishing their goal of having an even greater, faster impact through renovation (ReHabitat) of existing homes. Home renovations are usually completed in one third less time than it takes to build a new home.
