HORTULUS FARM GARDEN & NURSERY
Hortulus Farm Garden & Nursery
Hortulus Farm, an 18th Century farmstead and 501c3 foundation, boasts 24 separate gardens on 30 of its 100 acres. It was designated an affiliate garden in the Garden Conservancy's preservation program in 2015, and is a member of Greater Philadelphia Gardens along with such other notable local gardens as Longwood, Winterthur, and Chanticleer. A Guide To The Great Gardens Of The Philadelphia Region said of Hortulus Farm: "18th and 19th Century buildings are surrounded by such horticultural opulence that the scene registers as both sublimely serene and surreal." Hortulus Farm is open for self-touring 7 days a week, 10-4, May-October for a donation of $15 per person. Founder-guided tours are available to groups of 8 or more for a donation of $25 per person by appointment. In addition to the gardens, you can visit their specialty "connoisseur's nursery" offering for purchase the rare and unusual in every category. Their ever-changing stock includes tropicals, standards, espaliers, topiaries, their signature caged and frame-grown specimens, and a superb collection of hard-to-find perennials, shrubs, and annuals, many of which can be viewed while you stroll through the gardens.

AMBLER ARBORETUM AT TEMPLE UNIVERSITY
Ambler Arboretum at Temple University
The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University is a 187-acre-site that encompasses the Temple University Ambler Campus. The campus has deep horticultural roots - it was initially the site of the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women which opened in 1911. One of the three key focus areas for the Ambler Arboretum is the history of women in horticulture and design, sustainability, and the health benefits of gardens. The gardens are open to the public (dogs are welcome too) and there is much to explore! Highlights include a bell tower, herb garden featuring culinary, dye, and medicinal herbs, ground cover garden, native plant garden, a greenhouse, wetland garden and healing garden complete with a labryinth and rain garden. The wetland garden features sustainable elements including recycled-glass pavers, biological filtration of campus storm water runoff, a solar fountain and native plant communities. The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University is open year round from dawn to dusk. You are welcome to come any time during the day to take self guided tours.
